Bei Sesklon Reste der alten Stra\u00dfe von D\u0113m\u0113trias nach Larisa gefunden, von den Einheimischen Belestinostrata genannt. Ein Wachtposten aus byz. Zeit in der N\u00e4he von Belestinos am H\u00fcgel Spartia geh\u00f6rte wohl ebenfalls zu dieser Stra\u00dfe. Ende des alten Pherai mit der Slaweninvasion. Die Nachfolgesiedlung mit dem neuen, slaw. Namen Belestinos erstmals 1208 belegt; der in Innozenzbriefen erw\u00e4hnte dominus de Valestino ist Berthold von Katzenellenbogen. 1213 ein nach Belestinos benanntes Kl. belegt (abbatia in Armiro, quae Valestinum dicitur), das Papst Innozenz III. dem Bischof Barholomaeus von \u2192 Gardikia hetera zusprach. Auf einem Siegel Bartholomaeus als Cardicensis epi(scopus) et Valestinen(sis) bezeichnet. Vom fr\u00fchen 13. Jh. an erscheint Belestinos als Bistum in den Notitiae und Patriarchatsurkunden. Ein Bischof Micha\u0113l von Belestinos in einer Inschrift aus dem 13./14. Jh. genannt.  In Belestinos bzw. dessen Eparchia lagen Weing\u00e4rten des Kl. \u2192 Nea Petra, das zum \u2192 Makrinitissa-Kl. geh\u00f6rige Hilari\u014dn-Kl., ferner ein Kl. des H. Nikolaos Neos. 1259 die korat\u014dria tu Belestinu im Thema Halmyros und in den achtziger Jahren des 13.
