Als Bistum sp\u00e4ter nur noch in Zusammenhang mit \u2192 D\u0113m\u0113trias 1271 u. 1272 erw\u00e4hnt. Halmyros verdankte seine Bedeutung in erster Linie den Niederlassungen der ital. Seem\u00e4chte Venedig, Pisa und Genua, zu denen sich auch eine starke Judengemeinde gestellte. 1108 belegt in Kreuzfahrerbericht (Amiroth). Neben der oft bezeugten Georgskirche der Venezianer erinnern vielleicht auch die Ruinen einer Markos-Kirche an die venez. Kolonie. Die Pisaner hatten hier eine Jakobs kirche, welche 1158 bei einer Pl\u00fcnderung der Stadt durch ein Flottenkommando des K\u00f6nigs Wilhelm von Sizilien abbrannte. Bei den Venezianerverfolgungen1171 auch die Venezianer in Halmyros schwer getroffen. Im Privileg des Kaisers Alexios III. f\u00fcr die Venezianer 1198 erstmals die zwei Halmyroi (duo Almeri) genannt. Die Partitio Romaniae 1204 f\u00fchrt die duo Almiri unter den thess. G\u00fctern der Gemahlin Alexios III. Daher wies Bonifaz von Montferrat gerade Halmyros dem Alexios III. als Wohnsitz an, wo er als Privatmann leben sollte. Sp\u00e4ter Halmyros im Besitz des Wilhelm von Larisa (W. de Lanissa dominus de Armiro) u. dann die beiden Halmyroi (duo Almurus) zusammen mit \u2192 Besaina, \u2192 D\u0113m\u0113trias und \u2192  Archontoch\u014drion Margarete, der Witwe des K\u00f6nigs Bonifaz, zugewiesen 1209 l\u00e4ngerer Aufenthalt Kaiser Heinrichs zur Regelung der Verh\u00e4ltnisse in Griechenland. Halmyros blieb bis 1246 im Besitz der Lateiner, wie aus einem Chrysobull Micha\u0113ls II. von Epirus hervorgeht (Bezug auf das erst 1246 aus den H\u00e4nden der Lateiner zur\u00fcckeroberte Hilari\u014dn-Kl. bei Halmyros). 1259 das Gebiet von Halmyros urkundlich als Thema bezeugt. Die Venezianer erhielten 1265 hier wieder ein Quartier, aus dem sie offensichtlich vorher vertrieben worden waren. Vor 1278 zahlreiche F\u00e4lle von Piraterie im Raume von Halmyros belegt (Amiro, Almiro, Larmirum, Larmiro). 1289 unter den Besitzungen des \u2192 Lykusada-Kl. auch einige im Gebiet von Halmyros genannt: \u03b5\u03b9\u03c2 \u03c4\u03bf\u03bd \u03c4\u03cc\u03c0\u03bf\u03bd \u03c4\u03bf\u03cb '\u0391\u03bb\u03bc\u03c5\u03c1\u03bf\u03cd \u03c7\u03c9\u03c1\u03af\u03bf\u03bd \u03ae \u039c\u03b1\u03b3\u03bf\u03cd\u03bb\u03b1 \u03ba\u03b1\u03af \u03bf\u03af \u03a3\u03b9\u03bc\u03b9\u03c3\u03b1\u03c1\u03ac\u03c4\u03bf\u03b9 \u03bb\u03b5\u03b3\u03cc\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd\u03bf\u03b9 \u03c3\u03cd\u03bd \u03c4\u03b7 \u03ad\u03ba\u03b5\u03ca\u03c3\u03b5 \u03b3\u03b7 \u03c4\u03c9\u03bd \u039b\u03b5\u03b2\u03b1\u03c7\u03ac\u03c4\u03c9\u03bd \u03ba\u03b1\u03af \u03a4\u03b1\u03c1\u03c9\u03bd\u03ac\u03c4\u03c9\u03bd. In der Umgebung von Halmyros lag auch das dem Ath\u014ds-Kl. Batopedi geh\u00f6rige u. 1301 erw\u00e4hnte Kleinkloster S\u014dt\u0113r Christos. 1307 Pl\u00fcnderung, 1309 Aufenthalt der Katalanen in Halmyros (Lalmiro). 1310 mit anderen s\u00fcdthess. St\u00e4dten von der katalan. Kompanie unter Walther von Brienne erobert. Bald darauf entzweite sich Walther mit der Kompanie und verlor 1311 im Kampf mit den Katalanen bei Halmyros Schlacht und Leben. 1327 Almiro nochmals im Besitz der Katalanen (\u2192 Domokos, \u2192 Gardikia hetera, \u2192 Pharsalos). In Besitzbest\u00e4tigungen f\u00fcr das \u2192 Lykusada-Kl. Halmyros noch mehrmals, zuletzt 1348 genannt. Vom 14. Jh. an b\u00fc\u00dfte es allm\u00e4hlich seine Bedeutung als Hafenstadt zugunsten des neugegr\u00fcndeten \u2192 Golos ein. In den Portulanen des 15. Jh. erscheint noch der Pagasitische Golf als Golf von Halmyros (Golfo bzw. Colfo de Darmiro, Larmiro, Armiro).\r\nMon.: Von den bei Giannopulos beschriebenen drei Festungen (1. anstelle des alten Halos, 2. bei der M\u00fcndung des Platanorrerna [fr\u00fcher Matatz\u0113s], 3. bei Tsengeli) fast nichts erhalten. Die ma. Besiedlung am Gipfel der Akropolis von Ilalos nachweisbar, wo noch der Grundri\u00df eines quadratischen Turmes (etwa 4 m Seitenl\u00e4nge) aus Bruchstein u. M\u00f6rtel zu erkennen ist. Am Fu\u00df der Akropolis, auf der \u00f6. Seite der Autobahn Reste eines Turmes aus Bruchstein u. M\u00f6rtel mit gro\u00dfen Quaderbl\u00f6cken als Basis (Spolien oder antike Mauer ?) 32 Die Unterstadt von Halmyros lag zwischen den beiden Festungen an der M\u00fcndung des Platanorrema u. bei Tsengeli, welche wohl Reste der alten Stadtbefestigungen sind.
