Jh.) \u1e2a\u0101rist (\u2192 Karista) als bev\u00f6lkerte, von fruchtbaren Feldern und Obstg\u00e4rten umgebene Stadt am Meer erw\u00e4hnt. Seit Le\u014dn VI. nachweislich Bistum (Suffragan von Athen), bestand als solches zun\u00e4chst auch w\u00e4hrend der Lateinerherrschaft fort (Caristiensis), wobei der griech. Bischof offenbar f\u00fcrs erste im Amt blieb, doch 1222 Vereinigung des Bistums mit \u2192 Euripos; von griech. Seite blieb das Bistum bestehen u. wurde 1470 reaktiviert, nunmehr aber als Suffragan der neugegr\u00fcndeten M\u0113tropolis Euripos. Karystos bereits 1198, im Privileg Alexios\u0315 III., unter den St\u00e4dten mit venez. Handelsniederlassung genannt, ebenso im Teilungsvertrag von 1204. 1205 von Jacques d\u0315 Avesnes f\u00fcr Bonifaz von Montferrat in Besitz genommen und als Hauptstadt des s. Lehensdrittels von Eub\u00f6a (terezo di Caristo) an Ravano dalle Carcere vergeben. 1276/77 von byz. Truppen unter Licario erobert, 1296 R\u00fcckeroberung durch Bonifacio da Verona. 1318 der terzero di Caristo als Mitgift f\u00fcr Marulla da Verona, die Alfonso Fadrique heiratete, in katalan. Besitz; ab 1339 Ankaufsverhandlungen zwischen Venedig u. den Katalanen bez\u00fcglich der Burg von Karystos, doch gelang ein endg\u00fcltiger positiver Abschlu\u00df erst 1365, so da\u00df Karystos 1366 venez. Wurde. Das Lehen Karystos wurde zwar auch weiterhin vergeben, doch blieb die Burg in venez. Besitz, was durch Erl\u00e4sse bez\u00fcglich Erhaltungskosten und Besatzung belegt ist; 1470 nach dem Fall von Euripos von den T\u00fcrken erobert. \u2014 Weitere Belege als Ausgangspunkt f\u00fcr Personenschiffahrt, sowie als Hafen (Calastro, Carastro) in griech. und westlichen Portulanen (Caristo, Calisto, Chasisto u. \u00e4.).\r\nMon.: Am Hafen (heutige Stadt) das Mpurtzi, ein quadratischer (Seitenl\u00e4nge 18 m) Festungsbau auf einer ins Meer vorgeschobenen Klippe (jetzt verlandet), zweigeschossig, quadratischer Innenhof, Eingang von N, Mauerung z. T. aus gro\u00dfen, antiken Spolienquadern, erbaut wahrscheinlich Ende 14. Jh. \u2014 Die sp\u00e4tma. Siedlung (heute Myloi) am Fu\u00df des Festungsberges Montofoli eines Vorbergs des Och\u0113-Geb., etwa 4 km n. der modernen Stadt; erhalten die Festung Castel Rosso (Verballhornung aus Caristo), mit doppeltem Mauerring (etwa dreieckiger Grundri\u00df), wobei die \u00e4u\u00dfere Mauer den gesamten Burgberg umschlo\u00df: dem Haupttor an der S\u00fcdwestseite war eine Barbakane vorgelagert, in der S\u00fcdwestecke ein f\u00fcnfseitiger Turm; innerhalb des Mauerrings zahlreiche Reste von H\u00e4usern und Zisternen, sowie am Gipfel neben neuerer Proph\u0113t\u0113s \u0112lias-Kirche der quadratischen Donjon. \u2014 Von N f\u00fchrte eine Wasserleitung an den Burgberg heran (15 Bogen teilweise erhalten, bergw\u00e4rts lediglich gemauerte Rinne), die bei einer starken Quelle am Westabhang des Och\u0113-Geb. beginnt (\u2192 Z\u014dodochos P\u0113g\u0113)."}], "when": {"timespans": [{"start": {"earliest": "0300-01-01T00:00:00", "latest": null, "comment": "Beg.
