Ab Mitte 10. Jh. Pharsalos in den Notitiae zumeist als Erzbistum gef\u00fchrt, unter Andronikos II. M\u0113tropolis, 1371 Suffragan von Larisa. Auf einem Siegel aus dem 11./12. Jh. das Bistum mit dem alten Namen Phthia benannt. In nachbyz. Zeit mit \u2192 Phanarion zur M\u0113tropolis Phanariophersal\u014dn zusammengelegt. 998 zog Nik\u0113phoros Uranos \u00fcber \u03c4\u1f78 \u03c4\u1fc6\u03c2 \u03a6\u03b1\u03c1\u03c3\u03b1\u03bb\u03af\u03b1\u03c2 \u03c0\u03b5\u03b4\u03af\u03bf\u03bd gegen den bulgarischen Zaren Samul, der bis in die Peloponnes vorgedrungen war. Im Strategikon des Kekaumenos erscheint Pharsala auf dem Weg von Larisa zum \u2192 Pl\u0113r\u0113s, einem Flu\u00df, der das Gebiet der Blachoi (gemeint sein kann nur die westthess. Ebene) zweiteilt. Im Privileg Alexios\u02bc III. f\u00fcr die Venezianer 1198 die Episkepsis Fersalon (Episcepsis Pharsalorum) genannt; die Partitio Romaniae 1204 rechnet Fersala zur Pertinentia Imperatricis. 1208 Ferchika (= Pharsalos) von Papst Innozenz III. unter Hinweis darauf, da\u00df es schon fr\u00fcher Sitz eines Erzbischofs war, dem in \u2192 Larisa schwer bedr\u00e4ngten Erzbischof als Ersatzresidenz zugewiesen. Als 1209 Kaiser Heinrich Larisa besetzte, wandten sich die aufst\u00e4ndischen Lombarden nach le Flagre (= Pharsalos ?). Um 1241 Pharsalos von Manu\u0113l von Thessalonik\u0113 eingenommen. In Ferssela (= Pharsalos?) wurde 1245 Gottfried II. Villehardouin angeblich vom latein. Kaiser zum F\u00fcrsten von Achaia gekr\u00f6nt. 1278 wurde das kaiserlich byz. Heer bei Pharsalos von Johannes 1. von \u2192 Neai Patrai geschlagen. 1325 \u2014 1327 Ferselle, Ferxela kurzfristig in katalan. Besitz (\u2192 Domokos, \u2192 Gardikia hetera, \u2192 Halmyros). 1393 mit dem \u00fcbrigen Thessalien von den T\u00fcrken erobert; damals Stephan, Sohn des Syrne\u014dn Uro\u0161, seigneur de Pharsalos et de Domocos. In der T\u00fcrkenzeit Pharsalos wegen seiner Lage an einer Stra\u00dfengabelung \u00c7atalca (t\u00fcrk. atal = Gabel) genannt.\r\nMon.: Die ma. Siedlung deckt sich im gro\u00dfen u. ganzen mit der auf zwei tafelf\u00f6rmigen Felsh\u00fcgeln (bis 348 in hoch) gelegenen antiken Stadt; antike Stadtmauern zumeist ma. \u00fcberbaut.
