Unsicher auch die Ableitung aus griech. \u03c3\u03c4\u03ac\u03be, \u03c3\u03c4\u03b1\u03b3\u03ce\u03bd (\u201eTropfen\u201c) oder slaw. staja (\u201eStall, Geb\u00e4ude\u201c); verschiedentlich auch von \u03b5\u1f30\u03c2 \u03c4\u03bf\u1f7a\u03c2 \u1f01\u03b3\u03af\u03bf\u03c5\u03c2 hergeleitet. Als Bistum bis in die T\u00fcrkenzeit oft belegt, im 13. u. 14. Jh. auch in der Namensform Stam\u0113. Um 1020 wurde Stagoi aus dem thess. Kirchenverband ausgeschieden u. an das Erzbistum Ochrid abgetreten Mitte 11. Jh. erscheint es aber schon wieder als Suffragan von \u2192 Larisa. Eine Besitzbest\u00e4tigungsurkunde f\u00fcr die Kirche von Stagoi von 1163 zeigt, da\u00df die Stadt damals zum Thema Serbia geh\u00f6rte (In dieser Best\u00e4tigung Verweis auf zwei fr\u00fchere Urkunden von Nikphoros Botaneiat\u0113s u. Alexios I.). Weitere Besitzbest\u00e4tigungen unter Andronikos III. von 1336, u. dem Patriarchen Ant\u014dnios IV. (1393). Bischof D\u0113m\u0113trios von \u2192 Domenikon, der 1250 um die Rechte \u00fcber zwei Kl\u00f6ster seiner Di\u00f6zese k\u00e4mpfte, wurde sp\u00e4ter nach Stagoi versetzt Mitte 14. Jh. das Bistum von einem Arch\u014dn Hieremias Chranisthlabos verwaltet. \u2014 Zur politischen Geschichte von Stagoi wenig bekannt: Nach den Bulgarenkriegen Besuch des Kaisers Basileios II. im phrurion von Stagoi. Auf dem Feldzug des Guy II. de la Roche von Athen gegen Anna von Epirus wurde auch Estagus ber\u00fchrt. Nach dem Tod des Stephanos Gabri\u0113lopulos kam Stagoi 1333 gemeinsam mit \u2192 Trikala, \u2192 Phanarion, \u2192 Damasis u. \u2192 Elass\u014dn an Johannes Orsini von Epirus. Aus der Zeit der Serbenherrschaft mehrere Gouverneure (\u03ba\u03b5\u03c6\u03b1\u03bb\u03b1\u03af) von Stagoi bekannt: Theod\u014dros Orphanoi\u014dann\u0113s, Lukas Kom\u0113topulos u. Stephanos Kores\u0113s. \u2192 Dupian\u0113. In den Besitzbest\u00e4tigungen f\u00fcr das Bistum Stagoi sind genannt: 1) eine Prodromos- u. eine Barbara-Kirche in Stagoi, 2) als Metochien die D\u00f6rfer \u2192 Kobeltzion (mit Land von 1000 Modioi, \u03b3\u1fc6 \u03bc\u03bf\u03b4\u03af\u03c9\u03bd \u03c7\u03b9\u03bb\u03af\u03c9\u03bd bzw. \u03c4\u03bf\u03c0\u03af\u03bf\u03bd \u03a7\u03b9\u03bb\u03b9\u03cc\u03bc\u03bf\u03b4\u03bf\u03bd [sic]) u. Knina, weiters die Kl\u00f6ster der Theotokos \u2192 Dupian\u0113, der Theotokos in \u2192 Limpochobon, der Panagia \u1f10\u03bd \u03c4\u1ff7 \u1f08\u03c3\u03c0\u03c1\u03bf\u03c0\u03bf\u03c4\u03ac\u03bc\u03c9 (\u2192 Achel\u014dos), des H. Festung erhalten. Die jetzige Pfarrkirche Koimsis Theotoku von Kalampaka ist die Bischofskirche von Stagoi. Die Kirche des 11. oder fr\u00fchen 12. Jh., die auf eine fr\u00fchchristliche zur\u00fcckgeht, von der noch unter anderem Ambon, Templon sowie Synthronon erhalten u. Teile eines Mosaikfu\u00dfbodens aufgedeckt sind, im Kern eine dreischiffige Basilika mit h\u00f6herem Mittelschiff, drei halbrunden Apsiden u. einem Narthex. Der Exonarthex, die s. angebaute \u2014 heute abgerissene \u2014 Stoa u. der Glockenturm sp\u00e4tere Zubauten.
