Jh. hat wohl nichts mit der Einwanderung der Slawen zu tun, die bereits fr\u00fcher erfolgte. Nach dem Zeugnis der Miracula S. Demetrii um 675 \u2014 677 im Gebiet von Th\u0113bai Phthi\u014dtides u. D\u0113m\u0113trias Ansiedlung des slaw. Stammes der Belegezitai (\u2192 Belechatu\u00efa), die dort Ackerbau betrieben. J\u00fcd. Grabsteine bezeugen eine Judengemeinde in Thebai. Die Erneuerung der Basilika A (\u2192 Mon) Ende 7. oder Anfang 8. Jh. u. ein M\u00fcnzfund aus dem fr\u00fchen 9. Jh. zeigen, da\u00df die Stelle damals noch besiedelt war. Sp\u00e4ter Th\u0113bai in Quellen nicht mehr nachweisbar. In der Form Istefa (abzuleiten von Estives) ist der Name Th\u0113bai noch im 14. Jh. in den Gesta des Umur Pa\u0161a erhalten (gemeint aber das b\u00f6otische \u2192 Th\u0113bai).\r\nMon.: Seit 1924 systematische arch\u00e4ologische Untersuchung. Der Verlauf der r\u00f6m. Stadtmauer mit justinianischen Ausbesserungen noch im Gel\u00e4nde auszunehmen. Sie schlo\u00df die Akropolis des alten Pyrasos mit ein u. reichte bis ans Meer. Neben einer Gesch\u00e4ftsstra\u00dfe von der Stadt zum Hafen u. dem dazugeh\u00f6rigen H\u00e4ndlerviertel mehrere gro\u00dfe Basiliken ausgegraben. Die sog. Basilika A, auch Basilika des hl. D\u0113m\u0113trias genannt, wurde Ende 5. oder Anfang 6. Jh. gegr\u00fcndet u. Ende 7. Jh. oder in der 1. H\u00e4lfte des 8. Jh. nach Zerst\u00f6rung durch einen Brand erneuert. Aus der gleichen Zeit stammt die Basilika B, mit dem Beinamen Elpidius-Basilika. Die gr\u00f6\u00dfte u. reichst ausgestattete ist die Basilika \u0393, auch Kirche des Archiereus Petros genannt, die in ihrer \u00e4ltesten Bauphase auf das ausgehende 4. oder beginnende 5. Jh. zur\u00fcckgeht. Die Basilika \u0394 vom Anfang 7. Jh. liegt au\u00dferhalb der alten Stadtmauern u. wird als Friedhofskirche bezeichnet. An allen Basiliken Brandspuren. Im Rahmen der Ausgrabungen auch der Bischofspalast (\u1f10\u03c0\u03b9\u03c3\u03ba\u03bf\u03c0\u03b9\u03ba\u1f78\u03bd \u03bc\u03ad\u03b3\u03b1\u03c1\u03bf\u03bd) entdeckt u. freigelegt, ferner zahlreiche, zumeist kirchliche Inschriften gefunden. W. von Nea Anchialos zwischen dem antiken u. ma. Th\u0113bai Reste einer fr\u00e4nk. Br\u00fccke u. einer ma. Wasserleitung. \u2192 H.
