Erster namentlich bekannter Bischof ein H\u0113liod\u014dros, den die christliche Legende mit H\u0113liod\u014dros, dem Autor der Aithiopika, gleichsetzte. Der als Teilnehmer am Konzil von Nikaia 325 \u00fcberlieferte Diod\u00f6ros von Trikk\u00f66erscheint nicht in den Konzilsakten u. ist wohl identisch mit H\u0113liod\u014dros.In den Notitiae bis in die T\u00fcrkenzeit belegt, zuletzt in der verderbten Form \u03a4\u03c1\u03b9\u03ac\u03bd\u03b7\u03c2 mit dem Vermerk \u1f21v\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u03b7 (sic) \u03c4\u1fc6 \u03bc\u03b7\u03c4\u03c1\u03bf\u03c0\u03cc\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9. Prokop erw\u00e4hnt den Wiederaufbau der Stadtmauern von \u03a4\u03c1\u03af\u03c7\u03b1 in justinianischer Zeit. Bei Hierokl\u0113s wird die Stadt \u03a4\u03c1\u03af\u03c7\u03b1\u03b9 genannt; Konstantin Porphyrogenn\u0113tos rechnet \u03a4\u03c1\u03af\u03c7\u03b7 zur Eparchia Thessalisa des Themas Makedonia. In der Historiographie Trikala erstmals 1082/83 erw\u00e4hnt (Besetzung durch die Normannen). Bei Kekaumenos die Einwohner von Trikala als \u03a4\u03c1\u03b9\u03c7\u03b1\u03bb\u1fd6\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 bezeichnet. Im Privileg des Kaisers Alexios III. f\u00fcr die Venezianer von 1198 unter den thess. St\u00e4dten auch Tricala genannt. 1217 soll der latein. Kaiser Peter von Courtenay in Trikala mit Theod\u014dros Angelos von Epirus zusammengetroffen u. in dessen Gefangenschaft geraten sein. Um 1258 wurde die Stadt von Johannes Palaiologos erobert. Der Bischof Johannes von Trikala trat 1278 als Verfechter der Union mit der r\u00f6m. Kirche gegen Johannes I. Angelos von \u2192 Neai Patrai auf.1304 ber\u00fchrte Guy II. auf seinem Zug gegen Anna von Epirus auch Trikala. 1325 Herrschaft \u201eeines Griechen\u201c (wohl Stephanos Gabri\u0113lopulos) \u00fcber Trikala. Nach dessen Tod 1333 kam Trikala vertraglich an Johannes Orsini von Epirus; wenig sp\u00e4ter im Besitz Andronikos\u02bc III. Um 1355 das Gebiet von Trikala in der Hand des Nikolaos, eines Vasallen des Stephan Du\u0161an. Von 1359 bis zur Eroberung Thessaliens durch die T\u00fcrken 1393 Residenz der serbischen Herrscher. \u2014 Trikala auch Sitz einer Judengemeinde.\r\nMon.: Die anstelle der Akropolis von Trikk\u0113 erbaute byz. Burg in der T\u00fcrkenzeit umgebaut u. heute z. T. als Restaurant verwendet. An der S\u00fcdseite der Akropolis noch Reste der justinianischen Mauern festgestellt Auf einer S\u00e4ule der ehemaligen byz. Kirche H. Stephanos stand die inzwischen verschollene Inschrift, welche den Basileus Syme\u014dn Palaiologos (= Syme\u014dn Uro) u. die Despoina Anna nannte. Bei Erdarbeiten auf dein n. vom Kastron liegenden H\u00fcgel Proph\u0113t\u0113s Elias ein Mosaikfu\u00dfboden mit Inschrift entdeckt, welcher nach Aussage der Inschrift zum Narthex einer Basilika aus der Mitte bis zweiten H\u00e4lfte des 5. Jh. geh\u00f6rte. Mauerreste einer ehemaligen byz.
