Das Amt des Kastellans von castrum St. Angeli wird direkt von Venedig vergeben. Buondelmonti (1420) erw\u00e4hnt das weithin sichtbare phrurion tu H. Angely en Amphipolei t\u014d akr\u014dt\u0113ri\u014d. Der 1455 mit einem Kastellan erw\u00e4hnte tour des Saint-Archanges trotz der Lagebeschreibung (im O der Insel) wahrscheinlich mit Angelokastron identisch. In einem griech. Portulan erstmals in der Namensform Angelokastron belegt.\r\nMon.: Die Festung liegt, knapp 1 km s. des Dorfes Kr\u0113n\u0113, von dem sie durch einen tiefen Einschnitt getrennt ist. Der Gipfelbereich des steilen, nach 5 ins Meer vorspringenden\r\nBurgberges fast allseits von einer schwachen Befestigungsmauer umgeben; Mauerst\u00e4rke zwischen 60 und 80cm; Mauerung: mittelgro\u00dfer Bruchstein, roter M\u00f6rtel, Ziegelbruch; der Grundri\u00df ungef\u00e4hr dreieckig (Mauern an der N-, 0- u. SW-Seite), Umfang etwa 195 m. Eingang von N mit Torturm und Barbakane. Keine Wehrt\u00fcrme; an markanten Stellen im Mauerverlauf dreieckige bastionsartige Vorbauten. Landseitig (nach N und auch 0) stellenweise Vormauer bis zur halben H\u00f6he des Burgberges herabreichend. Auf dem Gipfel des Burgberges neuzeitl. Kapelle der Taxiarchai anstelle einer \u00e4lteren, von der der marmorne Altarstein (Reliefplastik) erhalten ist. Im NO-Teil der Festung, unweit der 0-Mauer H\u00f6hlenkapelle H. Kyriak\u0113 mit Fresken etwa des 15. oder 16. Jh. u. byz. marmornem \u00c4ltarstein mit Plastik. Im W-Teil der Festung neben einem Geb\u00e4uderest gemauerte Zisterne (10 x 8,5 m; Tiefe etwa 3,5 m). Datierung wahrscheinlich 11. oder 12.Jh. (zum Schutz vor den Normannen errichtet?) \u2014 Etwa 1,5 km s\u00f6. des Angelokastron auf einer kleinen Halbinsel Kloster Palaiokastritsa (Theotokos Pataiokastritissa), angeblich aus byz. Zeit stammend, doch in seinem jetzigen Zustand nachbyz. Auf der Landenge zwischen dem w. u. \u00f6. Hafen von Palaiokastritsa mittelbyz. Gr\u00e4ber (Beigaben etwa 11.
