Der Beiname Kyn\u0113gu d\u00fcrfte auf die mit Philosophoi verwandte Familie der Kyn\u0113goi zur\u00fcckgehen, die vielleicht auch als Wohlt\u00e4ter des Kl. fungierte. \u2014 In der T\u00fcrkenzeit florierte das Kl., wie auch die zahlreichen sp\u00e4teren Zubauten beweisen.\r\nMon.: Vom urspr\u00fcnglichen Klosterbau nur das dem Anfang des 12. Jh. entstammende Katholikon erhalten: Kreuzkuppelkirche, Zweis\u00e4ulentyp, mit au\u00dfen dreiseitiger Mittelapsis; Marmors\u00e4ulen mit jonischen Kapitellen und K\u00e4mpfen; achteckige Kuppel; K\u00e4stelmauerwerk. Der Narthex, eine s. Vorhalle und weitere Klosterbauten entstammen dem 18. u. 19. Jh.; sie wurden in letzter Zeit bei Restaurierungsarbeiten teilweise abgetragen.
