Moreover, Ostrogorski came to the conclusion that this was not an isolated case of redistribution of landed property, but part of a broader picture of rapid political and military change in Byzantine Macedonia. Still in 1998 Mark Bartusis underlined that: \u201cAs for the demographic changes brought about by Du\u0161an\u2019s conquest of Byzantine Macedonia, the Byzantine sources say little, and the Serbian sources say even less.\u201d A clear indicator in this context is the emergence of the specific term exaleimma (Greek \u1f10\u03be\u03ac\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9\u03bc\u03bc\u03b1; Slavonic eksalimo) in Milutin\u2019s charter. Mark Bartusis interprets exaleimma as \u201cruined properties\u201d and states: \u201c[\u2026] an exaleimma was an escheated property, which reverted to the owner\u2019s lord (a private landlord or
